Children's Drawing Lessons
Child art is something separate and distinct from adult art, and is common to all children. Children are artists in their own right and should be encouraged
to draw at every opportunity. Not all children will grow up to be artists but their progress through school will be more enjoyable if they can express their
imagination with more than words. They get a real sense of achievement if their thoughts can be conveyed through recongnisable drawings.
Some parents are concerned about starting their child too young. Some people might think that a child could be inhibited if confined to lessons that they
thought were too inflexible. But I would like to assure you that if your children were subjected to this unfavourable situation they would be the first to tell
you they were not enjoying 'their' art. You can see the enjoyment in your child's face resulting from their achievements.
From my experience, pre-schoolers to six (6) year olds cling pretty closely to a certain sameness or favourite pattern. They set down what they know
and not what they see. But from seven (7) to ten (10) years, they move past drawing from memory and imagination into the stage of drawing from nature.
From my experience with children in this age group, I consider these to be the ones who respond more readily to my course of drawing, sketching
and shading exercises.
This ability emerges in two stages:
1. Two dimensional drawings - outline only is used.
2. Three dimensional drawings - solid shapes are attempted - attention at overlapping and perspective. A little shading and the occasional foreshortening
is attempted. Then they move into the exciting areas of animals, figures, portraits and landscapes.
These lessons are not colouring-in classes, painting, collage or abstract art. My theory is - learn to draw first.
Lessons are of 1 hour duration.
Cost is $10 per lesson - Weekly or fortnightly.
Limit of 6 children per class.
Please feel free to phone me to discuss any queries.
